Have You or a Loved One Been Diagnosed with Cancer After Regular Alcohol Consumption?

You may be entitled to compensation. Major alcohol distributors have long concealed crucial information about the link between alcohol consumption and cancer. Now, it’s time to hold them accountable.

Why File a Claim?

For decades, the alcohol industry has downplayed the serious health risks linked to alcohol consumption. Studies show that alcohol use is a major contributor to several types of cancer, including:

  • Oral cancer;

  • Cancer of the pharynx;

  • Esophageal cancer;

  • Cancer of the larynx;

  • Breast cancer;

  • Liver cancer; and

  • Cancer of the colon and/or rectum;

Despite these well-established risks including the fact that Alcohol is a Class 1 Carcinogen, alcohol containers have historically lacked sufficient cancer warning labels. This is not only a violation of consumers' right to know but also a breach of governmental responsibility to inform the public.

Awareness of the link between alcohol consumption and cancer has developed over time, with scientific research playing a key role in informing both the public and alcohol distributors.

  1. Early Research (1960s-1980s): Early studies began identifying connections between heavy alcohol use and certain cancers, particularly cancers of the mouth, throat, and liver. However, during this period, most of the focus was on alcohol's immediate health impacts, such as liver disease (cirrhosis) and accidents caused by impairment.

  2. 1980s-1990s: By the 1980s, the evidence was mounting, and in 1988, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), part of the World Health Organization (WHO), classified alcohol as a Group 1 carcinogen, meaning it is a known cause of cancer in humans. This classification was a major step in formal recognition of alcohol's cancer-causing properties.

  3. 2000s-2010s: More robust studies clarified that even moderate alcohol consumption (not just heavy drinking) could increase cancer risk, particularly for breast cancer and colorectal cancer. By the 2010s, numerous public health organizations, including the American Cancer Society, began to strongly communicate that any amount of alcohol consumption could raise cancer risk.

  4. Recent Studies and Public Health Messaging: In recent years, scientific studies have continued to refine our understanding of the relationship between alcohol and cancer, showing that the risk increases in proportion to the number of drinks consumed. For example, in 2017, the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) issued a statement emphasizing that alcohol consumption is a significant risk factor for cancer, including for those who consume moderate amounts.

As manufacturers, distributors such as Diageo and Constellation brands have an obligation to disclose any material facts about their products, not to make false or misleading representations, and to provide the necessary representations to protect the user from the risks or hazards associated with their products. However, when marketing and distributing their products, the defendants are completely silent about the health risks of alcohol.

According to the paper Cancer Warning Labels on Alcohol Containers: A Consumer’s Right to Know, a Government’s Responsibility to Inform, and an Industry’s Power to Thwart

Consumers are left uninformed: Alcohol distributors have actively resisted placing cancer warnings on their products, even though the science linking alcohol to cancer is clear. Major alcohol conglomerate continue to profit off your suffering.

Government’s role neglected: Governments have a duty to protect public health by mandating these warnings, yet the alcohol industry’s lobbying efforts have thwarted many attempts.

Industry profits over safety: The alcohol industry continues to prioritize profits over consumer safety, using its considerable power to block regulatory action that would make cancer risks more transparent.

"The Industry has known for decades that Alcohol is a Class 1 Carcinogen, but they continue to market its products as safe."

If you have consumed alcohol for the majority of your lifetime and you have been diagnosed with Colorectal cancer; Liver cancer; or Esophageal cancer, recently, you may be an eligible plaintiff
